3 years after her triumphant 3rd LP A Perfect Contradiction, Paloma Faith returns with “Crybaby”.

Paloma Faith is best known for her big voice and how she spreads it across a strong ballad. However, she takes a different approach with “Crybaby”, her first single since 2015. She leans on her disco sensibility (which permeated strongly on her last LP) and unleashes a retro sounding track with an important subject.

The topic of the song: Masculinity. “Crybaby” is a conversation between lovers, woman to man.

The mid-tempo bop departs from her well-known heartbreak, ballad fare. Instead, the song engages Paloma’s recent penchant for disco (see “Mouth To Mouth”, “Impossible Heart”, and
“Beauty Remains” from A Perfect Contradiction). The synths and progression recall Brandy & Monica’s classic “The Boy Is Mine”, while Paloma encourages openness and free flowing feelings and tears.

This is a roller disco-ready conversation starter and a great lead in for Paloma’s new album, The Architect, out November 17.
