BET’s 106&Park to become digital-only

BET’s 106&Park will be retired from the network’s daily schedule on December 19.

The announcement comes from an article published on BET’s website, which states that the popular show will end its 14 years run with its last on air episode on December 19. After that, it will continue being available for streaming on the platform.

106&Park began airing as part of the BET schedule in 2000, hosted by AJ Calloway and Free, as a  response to MTV’s Total Request Live with a similar countdown format where artists introduced their latest music videos and with the public getting the opportunity to vote for their favorites.

In 2005 AJ and Free parted ways with the show and were briefly replaced by Julissa Bermundez and Big Tigger (2005-2006), then by Terrence J and Rocsi (2006-2012) and finally by Bow Wow who has been supported by “The Search” (2012-2013) and by Keshia Chanté (2013-present).

On August 20, 2008 the show celebrated its 2,000th episode. On October 6, 2010 it celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special episode that saw the return of the four original hosts.
