Watch: J. Cole drops “Wet Dreamz” video starring… two puppies!

Perhaps what may go down in history as one of the cutest music videos ever for a song which one would least expect it, is the visual for J. Cole’s “Wet Dreamz.” The song, one of the standouts from his most recent album, 2014 Forest Hills Drive, is an in-depth account of his first-time, spoken from the perspective of a younger, teenaged J. Cole.

The song itself is certainly anything but cute (well, I suppose it’s a bit cute that in actuality both of them were nervous about their first times) – and the lyrics are no-holds-barred honesty. Cole doesn’t shy away from mentioning his erection, or getting into explicit details about his feared short-comings (pun-intended) on the track, but the visual hints at such references in subtle ways. They represent his erection by showing the boy puppy wagging his tail, and his short-comings via an intimidated reaction to a Pit Bull.

However, overall, the video is a light-hearted visual representation of a tale from Cole’s youth. While explicit lyrically, in essence the song itself could be interpreted just the same. After all, a song about one’s first-time really shouldn’t be a big deal. It’s something we can all relate to, after all. The ending of the video is quite clever as well. I won’t spoil it – watch it for yourself.

It was good. I like that he chooses to think out of the box instead of doing a typical music video. Made me think of puppy love too.
