The previous record was held by *NSYNC’s No Strings Attached, which debuted with 2.42 million sold in its first week, in March 2000. Adele broke the record with a margin of about 40%.

It is also its 82nd non-consecutive week spent in the top 10. Her 2009 debut, 19, is also up to #20 with 20,000 copies sold. It’s a certified hurricane.
