On the charts: Week ending 07/15

This week’s top 10 songs and albums on the Billboard charts (07/30 issue).

Hot 100
01. (01) Drake – “One Dance” ft. Wizkid & Kyla (*10 weeks*)
02. (02) Justin Timberlake – “Can’t Stop the Feeling!”
03. (05) Sia – “Cheap Thrills” ft. Sean Paul
04. (04) Calvin Harris – “This Is What You Came For” ft. Rihanna
05. (03) The Chainsmokers – “Don’t Let Me Down” ft. Daya
06. (08) twenty one pilots – “Ride”
07. (07) Rihanna – “Needed Me”
08. (06) Desiigner – “Panda”
09. (09) Kent Jones – “Don’t Mind”
10. (12) Adele – “Send My Love (To Your New Lover)”

Controversy and PR stunts didn’t really help Calvin Harris ascend further on the chart. Sia’s timely discount of “Cheap Thrills” on the iTunes store helped the song breeze past it and into the top 3 instead. The week-to-week increases in chart points lead to believe that Sia will likely obtain the top spot in perhaps a couple more weeks. Meanwhile, “Cheap Thrills” is the #1 song at CHR/Top 40 radio and is now her highest peaking single ever, besting the #5 peak of “Wild Ones,” where she provided guest vocals.

The top 10 also sees a new entry with Adele’s “Send My Love” becoming her 5th top 10 hit. The third single from 25 is showing a better chart performance better than the second one, “When We Were Young,” which stalled at #14 over the winter.

Billboard 200

01. (02) Drake – VIEWS (*10 weeks*)
02. (–) ScHoolboy Q – Blank Face LP
03. (01) Blink-182 – California
04. (05) twenty one pilots – Blurryface
05. (08) Broadway Cast – Hamilton: An American Musical
06. (06) Rihanna – ANTI
07. (04) Beyoncé – LEMONADE
08. (–) Chevelle – The North Corridor
09. (07) Adele – 25
10. (–) Switchfoot – Where the Light Shines Through

ScHoolboy Q’s Blank Face LP is the best selling album of the week, but its numbers weren’t enough to beat Drake and his VIEWS from returning to #1 for a 10th non-consecutive week.

Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay

01. (01) Drake – “One Dance” ft. Wizkid & Kyla (*7 weeks*)
02. (02) Rihanna – “Needed Me”
03. (05) Drake – “Controlla”

08. (06) Desiigner – “Panda”
09. (09) O.T. Genasis – “Cut It” ft. Young Dolph
10. (10) Rihanna – “Work” ft. Drake

While the top 10 remains pretty static, outside of it Usher makes noise with “No Limit” advancing to #16 with string radio support. The only new entry on the chart this week is D.R.A.M.’s “Broccoli” at #50.
