On the charts: Week ending 11/04

This week’s top 10 songs and albums on the Billboard charts (11/19 issue).

Hot 100

02. (02) The Weeknd – “Starboy” ft. Daft Punk
03. (03) twenty one pilots – “Heathens”

09. (16) Rae Sremmurd – “Black Beatles” ft. Gucci Mane
10. (24) Drake – “Fake Love”

The Chainsmokers continue to rule the Hot 100, but they set a new record for lowest sales tally in over 10 years. “Closer” sold 72,000 downloads for the week, the lowest sum for a #1 single since Beyoncé’s “Check on It” totaled 61,000 in January of 2006.

While the song has had several weeks of sales over 100,000 downloads (including weekly totals over 150k), the decline in digital sales is becoming more and more remarkable. Next week, there could be a new #1 on the Hot 100 as Rae Sremmurd’s “Black Beatles,” driven by the viral “mannequin challenge” videos, has taken over iTunes and is looking at an estimated total of 30 million streams. Enough to finally dethrone the EDM duo.
